FSC IC has commissioned SmartCert to update the controlled wood risk assessments for Brazil, Canada, and Indonesia. These updates are necessary as the existing assessments are five years old and must align with the requirements of the FSC-PRO-60-006b procedure.
Key changes include the following: there are now 64 indicators instead of 32 in the previous version of the procedure; risk maps are now mandatory; threats to High Conservation Values (HCVs) that do not originate from forestry are now included in the scope of risk analysis, whereas they were previously excluded; the risk nomenclature has been revised; and mitigation measures are now required in cases of non-negligible risk.
