Independent Auditor of the Forest Legality System (AIS)
Project Description
In 2018-2019, and again from 2022 to 2025, SmartCert staff act as Independent Auditor of the Forest Legality System (AIS) for the Republic of Congo. In this role, SmartCert audits the Congolese forest governance system and identifies gaps in the application of the country’s forest laws. The objective of this mandate is to contribute to raising the level of forest governance of the Congolese State to the point where timber importers can be assured that Congolese timber is legal.
